Dogs love to do all sorts of things they enjoy. Nuzzle up to you to be scratched behind their ears. Or they will roll over on their back for a nice belly rub. Another is to paw at you for constant attention. Maybe they want to just put their head in your lap and to feel your hand gently stroke over the top of their head. They may have their favorite toy that they love to play with. And another would be a nice, treat-stuffed Kong toy that keeps them busy for hours. Then, when they are worn out, they love to sleep. That’s the best part of exercising and playing with your dog. Burning off their energy!
My Golden Retriever, Phoenix, loves all those things along with the fact that he is the most sociable soul I’ve ever met. He will play with dogs but he loves people most of all. And little kids he loves 10 fold. He has to sit before you can pet him. If you are walking by him on the sidewalk he has to sit. Oh, he doesn’t want to but he knows that is the deal.
Yet, Phoenix’s, first deepest passion and obsession is a tennis ball. And a thrown tennis ball he can chase after and retrieve. His second is his Chuckit! Flyer toy.
The one really funny thing about Phoenix that I’ve never figured out involves just me. If you were or are to ever play ball with him he will return it to your feet and bark at you to throw it again. Repeatedly. He will wear you out long before he does.
Yet, with me. He enthusiastically retrieves but often does not return. I know, I get constantly punk’d by him. And that is ok by me. He’s happy and having fun. That’s all that matters.
Here’s a little gallery of a very fun time. And his commentary, of course.
