Ok Phoenix, my Golden Retriever, and I aren’t really headed off on a great journey to The Big Apple. Yet. He’s recovering from surgery and it will be a bit before there are any road trips. Our friend, Jess, emailed me a few months back and asked if I would be interested in doing one of my Top 10 Movie posts for her awesome travel blog in New York City. I replied back, “Oh wow, most definitely!” An unbelievable honor. It was my longest research post to date which was completed a few weeks ago and I’m immensely proud of it. Please click on over here to Used York City and check out the Top 10 New York City Movies From My West Coast Point Of View post! Thank you so much always, Jess!

I have been told (many times) that I really need to write a book about my life. The past 40+ years have been an exciting ride, and these days I find myself with a great many passions. However, I feel that this website is a much more personal way with which to share my musings, stories, commentary, and (of course) my greatest love... my Golden Retriever, Phoenix.

  1. Hey Mike,
You know your traveling blogger friends out here are very much in favor of you and Phoenix taking a road trip! What a fun idea with great inspiration for new blogs.

    You gotta do it, Mike!

And I’ll bet you have a whole string of people all across the country with whom you could stay along the way . . . Hmmm, this could turn into a very interesting project! What do you say, my friend?!!!
Wishing a speedy recovery for Phoenix.
    Josie

    • Thank you, Josie, and yes I was just talking with a blogger friend about that road trip recently. It would take a gigantic amount of time off so a lot would have to be arranged. But, yes…that would be wonderful if we could do it.

  2. Sounds great mike! Hope you & Phoenix are doing well!

  3. Your post about movies and New York was amazing. It showed that you put a lot of research and thought in to your story. Good job and add a treat for Phoenix for me.

  4. That was a fun way to be introduced to a new blog (for me). Very macho (smile) list of movies, for sure. I enjoyed your list and your comments.

  5. I wish Phoenix a speedy recovery! Loved your post on Jess’s blog. Thanks for sharing.

  6. Will go over and read it now πŸ™‚ Hope Pheonix is well enough for some road trips soon!

    • Yes, we will most definitely get back on our road trip game, Catherine, and thank you so much.

  7. Glad to see you thinking about the future with Phoenix. You’ve got a lot of people pulling for him.

I checked out your movie selection. I have seen so few movies but come the fall when my life returns to a normal pace I plan to get Netflix and see so many of your movie suggestions.

How about a top 10 shot in Canada movie list?? That should get your research juices flowing.

    • Top 10 shot in Canada list huh, Leigh? Well, that would be very interesting. Filing away for sure. I’m sooooo blown away by everyone’s kind thoughts and checking in for Phoenix. It just amazes me and warms my heart. Your personal notes included, our friend.

  8. That’s a great list of movies, Mike! πŸ™‚ I’ve always wanted to visit NYC myself. Will get there, eventually. Cheers! Hope Phoenix is recovering well.

    • I appreciate that very much, Debbie, and I hope you guys get there too just like Phoenix and I.

  9. Clicked on immediately, and must say that your research based movie posts deserve all the credit they can get. Keep up the good work.

  10. Ha ha nice one! πŸ™‚

  11. I love your Top Ten Movie posts, Mike! I’m totally grabbing you for one on MOI…

This is a good list and here’s one for you – Remember Me. It’s got Robert Pattinson in it and I’m sure you just groaned but it’s a good movie…I promise!

    Love to Phoenix XX

    • Oh wow, that’s such a huge compliment, Sandy, and thank you so very much for your Phoenix thoughts too. Excellent choice on Remember Me.

  12. You are SO doggone Popular. XXx KISS for Phoenix.

  13. Thinking about you and Phoenix a lot, Mike. I hope so much he’s okay so much so much so much. Hugs and prayers and love to both of you.

    • So appreciate that very much, Kristi. All of your thoughts and words each day help a lot.

  14. Great news! You need some time off :). Take a lot of pictures!!! I can’t wait to see them!

  15. Wishing Phoenix a speedy recovery and I hope a road trip is in the very near future. Loved your post on Jess’ site and very informative. You need to start doing this series for many cities now πŸ™‚

    • I appreciate that very much, Mary, and yes I’m starting to get some requests coming in now for just that very thing.

  16. Don’t forget “Sleepless in Seattle” and “An Officer and Gentleman” hint, hint, Seattle, Seattle, Seattle. . . hope Phoenix is on the road to recovery!!

  17. Hope Phoenix is feeling better, imagine how much fun he would have on a road trip visiting all his friends πŸ™‚

  18. You tricked me with that headline. I think it’s interesting to visit an iconic place and see how your expectations line up with reality. For instance, I want to visit Lake Como in Italy, but unless George Clooney invites me (and my husband) to stay at his villa, I will be sorely disappointed. My kids were surprised that they didn’t encounter a single mime in Paris.

    • Oh lordy if you and your husband get invited by George Clooney to his Lake Como villa…please, please take me too, Michele. That would be out of this world awesome.

  19. Heading over there now! Hope Phoenix is recovering well! Perhaps there will be a road trip in the future? I bet Phoenix would have lots to say.

  20. Clicking over now. All the best for the lovely dog πŸ™‚

  21. Fun list you created there. Hugs to Phoenix.

  22. I hope Phoenix is having a smooth recovery!

  23. Another great post with lots of movies I havent seen.
My favorite would probaly be Saturday Night Fever. For whatever reason I think of my Mom when I see this movie. Probably because of her crush on John Travolta. I believe she had this poster and a Peter Frampton poster on her wall when I was a kid, lol.

  24. Hope Phoenix is doing well! Congrats.

  25. We’re SO happy that you contributed this fabulous article to the site, Mike! It’s received so much positive praise, and it’s great hearing people’s take on their favorite NYC flicks, too!

Here’s hoping you and Phoenix can make it to NYC one of these days to explore in person!

    • We would love to make it there someday, Jess. Thank you so much again for the invite on the guest post and I’m so glad on the positive feedback. It was such a thrill and a honor.

  26. I loved the post! I hope your golden retriever gets better soon, poor little thing xxx
