In a recent comment on her blog, Kristi at Finding Ninee challenged my Golden Retriever, Phoenix, and I to participate in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

We accepted, so here you go…

Now, I challenge you readers to do the same and donate to this great cause at the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge!

A very special thank you goes to my wonderful close friends, the Ross family, for making this happen. Clayton, Char, Mary and CJ – you guys rock!

Have a great day everyone!

I have been told (many times) that I really need to write a book about my life. The past 50+ years have been an exciting ride, and these days I find myself with a great many passions. However, I feel that this website is a much more personal way with which to share my musings, stories and commentary.

  1. Hi Mike,

That is a nice gesture, a wonderful video and I love Phoenix…he is SO smart!! May God bless you both!

    • Thank you and back at ya with God’s blessings! Ya, he’s too smart sometimes when it means punking his Dad, Balroop!

  2. This is awesome Mike! Phoenix did a great job too!
Phoenix looks incredible. After everything he has been through recently, its nice to see him looking so good and full of life! Cheers fellas!

    • Thank you so much, Tony! Time for you and Talissa to accept the challenge, buddy! He does look good and thank you for that. And he is still too smart for his Daddy since he is still perfectly capable of throwing me under the bus…errrr…bucket this time! 🙂

  3. Hilarious. I know Phoenix is devoted to you — but he’s not stupid. LOL. I’m not promising to get doused in ice cold water, but I promise to make a donation in Phoenix’ name. Is his last name “Vogler”?

    • Some moments, like this one, I think his last name is “Laughing Out Loud!” (at his Daddy)! That is absolutely awesome that you will make a donation and yes his last name is Vogler. You are the best, Suzanne! Give hugs and loves to Dino from us! 🙂

  4. HAHAHAHA! Phoenix ran away like he knew what was gonna happen :). Great video!

  5. haha that was hilarious 🙂 Phoenix is so clever !

  6. Hahaha! Phoenix is SO smart! 😀 Great cause and I will make a donation, but the ice water thing – not so much. Have a great week.

    • Had I seen that mischievous look he was giving the camera I might have known something was up, Debbie 🙂

  7. Great guy for a great cause!

  8. You guys rock! What a great cause you two are supporting! Phoenix, nice move 😉

  9. No way! I love that Phoenix ran away!! Best ice bucket video yet! Love!! hehehehe!!!

  10. Ahhhh, Haaaaaha. You and Phoenix made my day, Mike. Way to go!! LOL. I’m such a chicken. But now I have no choice but to donate.

  11. This was soooo much fun!! LOL! Phoenix definitely knew where he DIDN’T want to be!! You guys both rock and THANK YOU for sharing this with us!!! <3 The Rosses

  13. I’ve watched a number of these, Mike, and you and Phoenix win! Love this!

  14. Brrr, but great to see you help with a great cause. Phonix really is one smart dog 😉

  15. Perfect timing, Phoenix!

  16. Excellent work! And such a smart dog to be missing it. And might I say he looks like a mere puppy with that wonderful run!

  17. My son loved this! Funny Phoenix!

  18. Man I loved that video. I have to admit I was wondering whether or not Phoenix would sit still for the icy water. Good to see that ‘man’s best friend’ had more sense. After all, it’s not like he could put on a nice dry coat or anything 😉

  19. Ha ha, I was secretly hoping that Phoenix would not get doused in icy cold water. Good on you for taking the rap. This is all the rage in Australia too.

  20. Your grunt after getting soaked would have made a silverback proud!

  21. I wasn’t expecting that bucket of water – good for you Mike and Phoenix. ALS has got to be one of the most God-awful diseases so thank you for supporting it in such a great way.

  22. This is hilarious! I love that he ran away. A wise dog! Great to see you supporting the ALS campaign too.

  23. How did Phoenix know when to run away? He looks gorgeous! Good to see that he looks healthy!

  24. Hahaha, love the fact that Pheonix ran away! What a clever dog!

  25. That is soooooooo funny! I love it! Phoenix, you’re the best!
Was nice to hear your voice too Mike!

  26. What timing phoenix!! smart fellow! :P:P

  27. This is awesome, you guys! Phoenix was the best, what reflexes 🙂

  28. This was delightful Mike! I was wondering if you were really going to subject your beloved Phoenix to an icy shower, I should have known he was smart enough to play along until the moment of truth! Well done, my friends, this is one of my favorite challenge videos to date! 🙂

  29. Phoenix is a smart cookie! He got out of there so quickly! 🙂

  30. Smart pup, taking off right before the ice water. I wish he could have dodged his illness the same way. Thinking of you.

  31. I love how fast Phoenix can react to an impending bath. Before this challenge went viral, I didn’t think I knew anyone with the disease. Surprisingly, it’s become a threat to friends that never told people they had ALS. Good job with the creative method of keeping this illness in people’s minds.

  32. HAHAHAAHA perfect timing Phoenix!! Great clip, we can only wish we had his reflexes!

  33. This was terrific! I love how Phoenix high tailed it out of there!

Great to actually hear your voice Mike!

  34. Well done both of you. Phoenix once again demonstrates that he is smarter than most.

  35. Mike, I so wanted to watch this last week…I had to wait to get back to our motorhome. I loved seeing you and Phoenix, he was so beautiful. And what a perfect moment for him to sneak away 🙂
So very sorry that he is no longer here, but know this – he is very loved.
We loved getting to know him, we loved sharing him with my boys and we loved reading all about his cheeky personality.
We are sending you lots of love, so glad you have this video of Phoenix xxx <3

  36. I did NOT expect to see Phoenix running away! Cheeky one. I bet he knew what was coming and didn’t like the idea.
You’re great for doing this! Keep up your brilliant work helping others

  37. Oh, my heart just broke a little.

  38. This is such a lovely video, what a great team you made 🙂
