The short answer · Estimate
$4 million to $9 million
No checkable source has published Andrea Canning’s net worth or her NBC salary. The figures online come from three small estimate sites that name no source: $5 million to $9 million [6], $4 million to $6 million [7] and $2 million to $10 million [8]. We use the span of the two narrower ones. Her income comes from Dateline NBC and from more than 20 screenplays for Hallmark and Lifetime [2].
Confidence: low. The estimates disagree, none shows its method, and no salary, contract, property record or filing has been published by a source we could check.

How we estimate Andrea Canning’s net worth
Her net worth is estimated here by setting the published figures side by side and checking whether any of them names a source. None does, and none of them is official.
| Source | What it says | Date |
|---|---|---|
| Guide Net Worth [6] | Net worth $5 million to $9 million; salary $200,000 to $500,000+ a year; no source named | Updated 3 July 2026 |
| TheCityCeleb [7] | Net worth $4 million to $6 million; no salary given; no source named | Read 7 October 2026 |
| The Bulletin Time [8] | Net worth $2 million to $10 million, called “late 2025 estimates”; no source named | Read 7 October 2026 |
Our method
Three pages, three answers. Guide Net Worth says $5 million to $9 million [6], TheCityCeleb says $4 million to $6 million [7] and The Bulletin Time says $2 million to $10 million [8]. None of them shows how it got there. We take $4 million to $9 million, the span of the two narrower estimates, and treat it as a rough guide.
Why the widest figure sets neither end. The Bulletin Time’s top figure is five times its bottom one, and its NBC salary line reads “$500K-$800” [8], which looks like a typing error. We list it, but we don’t let it set the ends of our range.
No older origin to trace. Celebrity Net Worth has no Andrea Canning page; its site search returned only other people when we checked for this article. So the figures above can’t be traced back to an older estimate either. They may simply be guesses.
Salary. NBC’s own biography of Canning lists her shows, podcasts, Emmy nominations and screenplays, but no pay [2]. The only salary band we found, $200,000 to $500,000+ a year, sits on an estimate page that names no source [6]. We report it as an estimate, not as her pay.
What we left out. Height, weight and per-script fee figures circulate on bio pages, but none cites a source we could open, so none is used here.
Costs. TV pay and script fees are paid before tax, agent fees and living costs. Money earned over a career is not the same as net worth.
We update this page when a new deal, sale or filing moves the range; the “updated” date changes only then. The same method is used for all our net worth estimates; read how we research.
Where Andrea Canning’s money comes from
Andrea Canning’s money comes from her job as a Dateline NBC correspondent, from podcasts and hosting work, and from writing TV movies for Hallmark and Lifetime [2]. Before NBC she spent eight years at ABC News [4], and before that she worked at local stations in Canada and the U.S. [1]. We use the same method on other TV news pages, such as Chris Cuomo’s net worth.
| Income stream | What is reported | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Dateline NBC and NBC News | Correspondent since October 2012; also contributes to Today, NBC Nightly News and MSNBC, and fills in as an anchor on Today and Weekend Today. Pay not published | [3][4][1] |
| Podcasts and syndicated Dateline | Hosts Dateline True Crime Weekly and the syndicated Dateline series; contributes to Talking Dateline, After the Verdict and Missing in America. Pay not published | [2] |
| Screenwriting | Writing since 2016; more than 20 screenplays for Hallmark and Lifetime, including USS Christmas, Double Mommy and Killer Prom. Fees not published | [2][1][5] |
| Hosting outside Dateline | Sister Wives and Little People Big World reunion specials; guest co-host on The View. Fees not published | [2] |
| On-screen acting | Plays a news anchor in the Ruby Herring Mystery film series from 2019. Fee not published | [1] |
| ABC News (past) | Correspondent from 2004 to April 2012: White House, Congress, the Supreme Court and the Iraq War; work for Good Morning America, Nightline and 20/20. Pay not published | [1][4] |
| Local TV (past) | Assignment editor at Extra (1996-1997); CKVR-TV Barrie (1997-1999); WPTV West Palm Beach (1999-2001); also WCPO-TV Cincinnati and WXVT Greenville, Mississippi. Pay not published | [1][3] |
Two income streams matter most. The first is her NBC job, which NBC describes as covering breaking news, investigations and several podcasts [2]. The second is screenwriting, which runs alongside it: NBC Insider says she keeps an active career writing TV movies for Lifetime and Hallmark Channel [5].
Neither stream has a published dollar figure. NBC’s biography of her gives no pay [2], and no page we opened gives a fee for any of her scripts. That leaves the estimate sites guessing, which is why the widest of them runs from $2 million to $10 million [8].
Andrea Canning’s jobs and credits, and whether the pay was published
Andrea Canning has held 14 jobs and credits we could confirm since 1996, and not one comes with a published pay figure [1][2]. That gap is the reason her net worth can only be estimated.
| Years | Job or credit | Pay published |
|---|---|---|
| 1996-1997 [1] | Assignment editor, Extra | No |
| 1997-1999 [1] | Reporter and anchor, CKVR-TV, Barrie, Ontario | No |
| 1999-2001 [1] | Reporter and co-anchor, WPTV, West Palm Beach, Florida | No |

| 2024 [2] | Host, Dateline True Crime Weekly podcast | No |
The table shows a long career with steady work. Canning moved from local news to network news in 2004 [1], moved networks in 2012 [3], and added a second career as a writer in 2016 [1]. No source we opened puts a dollar figure on any of those steps.
The NBC hire was public news at the time. NBC News president Steve Capus said she “will thrive at NBC News” [3], and TVNewser reported the move the same day [4]. Neither report gave contract terms.
The same check, a published figure set against what can be confirmed, runs on every page in this section, including Karoline Leavitt’s net worth.
Earnings timeline
Her earnings grew in three steps: local TV from 1996, network news at ABC from 2004 and NBC from 2012, and screenwriting from 2016 [1].
| Year | What happened |
|---|---|
| 1972 | Born on 10 December in Collingwood, Ontario [1]. |
| 1994 | Psychology degree from the University of Western Ontario [1]. |
| 1996-1997 | Assignment editor at the TV show Extra [1]. |
| 1997-2001 | Reporter and anchor at CKVR-TV in Barrie, then at WPTV in West Palm Beach [1]. |
| 2004 | Joins ABC News as a correspondent [1][4]. |
| 2008 | Marries Tony Bancroft [1]. |
| 2011 | Her Charlie Sheen interview airs on 20/20 on 28 February; Wikipedia says it drew more than 10 million YouTube views in its first nine days [1]. |
| 2012 | Leaves ABC News in April [1] and is named a Dateline NBC correspondent on 3 October [3][4]. |
| 2016 | Starts writing scripts for TV movies [1]. |
| 2019 | The Ruby Herring Mystery films begin, with Canning as a news anchor [1]. |
| 2024 | Hosts the new podcast Dateline True Crime Weekly [2]. |
What could change the number
A published NBC contract, a reported script fee or a property record with a price would change this estimate more than any new list from an estimate site.
Her screenwriting is the part most likely to grow. NBC put her total at more than 20 screenplays in May 2024 [2], and each new film adds to it. If a trade paper ever reports what a Hallmark or Lifetime script pays, the range could move up or down quickly. Until then, we won’t guess.
Her NBC role has also widened. Since 2024 she hosts a podcast and the syndicated Dateline series as well as reporting [2]. That points to more work, but not to a known figure. If a better-sourced estimate appears, we will replace the three sites above with it.
